The 5000 meters Run is a popular running distance also known as a 5K or 5 km, colloquially "five-K" (equal to 3.107 miles). This distance is typical for running races; on road, on the track or cross-country. It is one of the track and field events in the Olympic Games.
Runners generally refer to the distance on the track as 5000 meters but call cross-country or road races 5K.
Much of the distance's popularity is due to the challenge it offers to both novices and accomplished professionals. It is a distance race that demands a great deal of endurance as well as speed. Tactics are also a key role, and the combination makes it attractive to many.
